Kath Bennett & Graham Hollobon had no idea when they bought their Christchurch home that, not only would they eventually have to stand by and watch it be demolished because it was too water damaged to repair, but also that – because it was slightly too old to be covered by any warranty or legislation – they would not receive a cent in compensation.
When it came time to rebuild, they chose Stonewood Homes.
The nightmare ended for them last weekend when Stonewood Homes Managing Director Brent Mettrick handed them the key to their new home (which they were expecting) and a little something unexpected as well… a cheque for over $50,125.00!
When he realised they were re-building with Stonewood, Brent recognised the opportunity to give something back to a couple who had been to hell and back, and yet still remained remarkably positive – and turned out to be delightful clients to work with as well. So he went around all the suppliers and trades at the early stages of construction and most agreed to either supply at a discount or reduce labour costs.
Kath and Graham were already delighted with their new home, and with the support they had received from Stonewood Homes’ staff and suppliers - even one of their neighbours dropped by to thank everyone involved for taking pains to ensure the rest of their right of way were disturbed as little as possible during the build.
Now they have even more to smile about - and from the feedback received from all involved with the project, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer couple.
